... and right now, let's get started with today's practice exam!

1. Which of the following is NOT a problem when performing route summarization?

A. Discontiguous networks

B. Using RIP, which doesn't allow it

C. IPv4's non-hierarchical structure

D. All of the above are problems with route summarization

2. In the following EIGRP table, how many successors are there?

R1#show ip eigrp top
IP-EIGRP Topology Table for AS(100)/ID(172.12.123.1)

P 2.2.2.2/32, x successors, FD is 2297856
via 172.12.123.2 (2297856/128256), Serial0
via 172.12.123.3 (2323456/409600), Serial0

P 172.23.23.0/24, x successors, FD is 2195456
via 172.12.123.2 (2195456/281600), Serial0
via 172.12.123.3 (2195456/281600), Serial0

P 172.12.123.0/24, x successors, FD is 2169856
via Connected, Serial0

3. For each statement below, identify whether the statement is referring to OSPF, RIP, and/or EIGRP.

A. Regularly sends updates reflecting content of entire routing table

B. Has characteristics of both link state and distance vector protocols

C. Multicasts Hello packets to 224.0.0.10

D. Creates and maintains adjacencies to other routers

E. Multicasts Hello packets to 224.0.0.5

F. May multicast or broadcast update packets, depending on configuration

4. Under which of the following circumstances does EIGRP send a "query" packet?

A. Successor is lost and no feasible successor exists

B. Feasible successor goes SIA

C. AS mismatch

D. Route summarization has just been configured and is being carried in the Update packet for the first time

5. A RIP debug shows routes being advertised with a metric of 16. What distance vector behavior is in effect?

A. split horizon

B. route poisoning

C. infinity hosting

D. route summarization

Let's get to those answers!

1. (B). RIP allows route summarization, so that's no problem. Discontiguous networks and the overall structure of IPv4 are definitely issues when you're configuring route summarization.

2. There are actually four successors in that table. For the route 2.2.2.2, there's only one, and obviously just one for the 172.12.123.0/24 route -- but since the metrics are exactly the same for 172.23.23.0/24, both routes are considered successors.

3. The answers for each statement:

Regular updates of entire routing table - RIP

Characteristics of LS and DV protocols - EIGRP

Multicasts hellos to 224.0.0.10 - EIGRP

Creates and maintains adjacencies - EIGRP and OSPF

Multicasts Hellos to 224.0.0.5 = OSPF

May multicast or broadcast updates - RIP (Version 1 broadcasts, version 2 multicasts)

4. (A). An EIGRP-speaking router will send a Query packet when a successor route is lost and the router has no feasible successor.

5. (B). That's route poisoning.
