CCNA Practice Exam

RIP, Static Routing, EIGRP, And More!

Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

Welcome to a new series of CCNA and CCENT practice exams!

You'll find the answers at the bottom of the page.

You'll also find links to the "CCNA Practice Exam Of The Day" on the Bulldog Blog!

Let's get to the questions!

1. You'll see the value "0.0.0.0" at least once in the ip route command that creates a default static route. What does this represent?

A. It appears once, as the route mask

B. It appears twice, as the next-hop address and the route mask

C. It appears twice, as the route itself and the route mask

D. It appears once, as the route itself

E. It appears once, as the next-hop address

2. What command forces RIP to operate unconditionally in Version 2 mode only, and exactly where in the config should this command be placed?

3. You're examining the routing table on a Cisco router, and it's 49 lines long. You want to see only the static routes. How can you do this?

4. Which of the following does RIP do by default?

A. Run in Version 1 mode unconditionally

B. Accept Version 1 updates only

C. Accept Version 2 updates only

D. Send both Version 1 and 2 updates

E. None of the above

5. You want to use a routing protocol that sends updates in some form only when there is actually a change in the network. Which of the following fits this description?

A. RIP v1

B. RIP v2

C. EIGRP

D. All of these

E. None of these

And now.. the answers!

1. "C". You'll find 0.0.0.0 as both the route and route mask in the ip route command when you're creating a default static route.

2. The command is straightforward - version 2 - just be sure to put it in the RIP protocol configuration itself.

3. Run the show ip route static command to display only the static routes in an IP routing table.

4. "E". RIP by default accepts both Version 1 and 2 updates, but sends only Version 1.

5. "C". Both versions of RIP send full routing updates every 30 seconds, regardless of whether there's actually been a change in the network.

With EIGRP, after the initial exchange of full routing tables that follows the formation of an adjacency, updates are sent only when there's a change that needs to be reported - and even then the update will reflect only the changes.
