Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

Welcome to a new series of CCNA and CCENT practice exams and videos !

You'll find the answers at the bottom of the page, along with links to additional CCNA and CCNP practice exams, tutorials, videos, and more.

2. There are three VLANs on your switch (10, 20 and 30) in addition to the default VLAN. A host in VLAN 10 sends a broadcast. Hosts in how many of the other VLANs will receive that broadcast?

And now .. the answers!

1. "D". The "router on a stick" technique is sometimes necessary because L2 switches cannot route traffic.

With the popularity of L3 switches, we're seeing less and less ROAS - but it's still a good skill to have for your CCNA and CCNP exams.

2. "A" -- Zero. Only the other hosts in VLAN 10 will receive any broadcast sent by a host in that particular VLAN.

3. Such frames are said to be tagged with a VLAN ID.

4. "A, C". Both IEEE 802.1q ("dot1q") and ISL are trunking protocols.

5. "C, D". ISL is the Cisco-proprietary trunking protocol that encapsulates every single frame that goes across the trunk.
