Answers:

1. "B, C, D". A missing clockrate, LMI mismatch, and encapsulation mismatch are three of the reasons a line protocol can go down.

2. "B". The running configuration is kept in RAM, where it will be lost when the Cisco device reloads.

3. "D". The router will first look for an IOS in Flash.

4. To exit the dreaded Setup Mode, use the <ctrl-c> keystroke. You'll be placed into user exec mode and any configuration you entered in Setup Mode is lost.

5. copy running-config startup-config (usually abbreviated as copy run start)

6. The POST is the power-on self-test, and this is a series of self-diagnostics the router runs to find out if there are any serious issues (such as a broken fan or corrupted memory) that would prevent it from operating normally if it finished the boot process.

When a POST fails, the router gives you a message referencing the problem and then stops booting.

'Tis an ugly thing.

7. "A". A disconnected cable would cause that readout. If the interface were shut down, we'd see Serial1 is administratively down.

8. Just run no shutdown on that interface!

9. The router looks in its NVRAM for the startup configuration by default.

10. If the router doesn't find a startup configuration, it prompts you to go into Setup Mode.

Which you now know how to get out of. :)
