By Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

Bulldogs, here are five more CCNA and CCENT "Flash Card" questions for you...

... that means no multiple choice, and these questions are excellent prep for your exams!

I post several of these a week, so bookmark my CCNA Practice Exam page while you're here, and let's get started with today's exam!

1. At which layer of the OSI model does data take the form of segments?

2. At which numeric layer of the OSI model does routing occur?

3. The Network Access layer of the TCP/IP networking model maps to which layer(s) of the OSI model?

4. Of the following terms, which are associated with TCP?

guaranteed delivery

windowing

"connectionless"

error detection via sequence and ACK numbers

5. Briefly describe the three steps of the TCP "three-way handshake".

And now -- the answers!

1. Data takes the form of segments at the Transport layer.

2. Routing takes place at L3 of the OSI model.

3. The Network Access layer of the TCP/IP model maps to the Physical and Data Link layers of the OSI model.

4. TCP does offer guaranteed delivery, does have windowing capability, and does have error detection using sequence and ACKs.

The term "connectionless" describes UDP.

5. Server sends a SYN, recipient of that SYN sends a SYN/ACK back, and then the first server sends an ACK back. In short, "SYN, SYN/ACK, ACK".
