Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933
Let's jump right into this CCNA practice exam on Layer 2 features and technologies...
... and when you're done here, come on over to my CCNA OSPF Video Boot Camp -- ready for you to watch online and/or download immediately. (And it's free!)
Let's get started!
1. Which of the following is required in a correctly written frame map statement?
A. The remote DLCI
B. The remote IP address
C. The local DLCI
D. The local IP address
E. broadcast
F. local router exit interface
2. Which of the following are defaults for Cisco router serial interfaces?
A. Administratively shut down
B. Open
C. Uses HDLC encapsulation
D. Uses Frame Relay encapsulation
3. The cabling between two directly connected Serial0 interfaces has been tested and is correct. One end of the connection is running HDLC and the other is running PPP.
When you run the command show interface serial0, which of the following would you expect to see?
A. Serial0 is up, line protocol is up
B. Serial0 is up, line protocol is down
C. Serial 0 is down, line protocol is down
D. Serial 0 is down, line protocol is up
4. Using the answers for the previous question, are there any that you literally will never see as output of that command? If so, which ones?
5. Which of the following describes PPP?
A. Cisco-proprietary
B. Supported by non-Cisco vendors
C. Has authentication capabilities that HDLC does not offer

Let's get to those answers!
1. (B, C). The only two requirements there are the remote IP address and the local DLCI. The broadcast option is important, but it's just that .. an option.
Watch that. : )
2. (A, C). All physical interfaces on a router will be shut by default, and the Serial interfaces run HDLC by default.
3. (B). If the cabling is fine and there's an encapsulation mismatch, the interface will be physically up and logically down.
4. (D). You literally can't see "Serial 0 is down, line protocol is up". If the physical state of the interface is down, the logical state will be down, too.
5. (B, C, D). Three of PPP's advantages over HDLC:
PPP is supported by non-Cisco vendors
PPP has authentication options that HDLD doesn't (PAP, CHAP)
PPP offers compression options, too (Stacker, Predictor)
There are literally hundreds of additional videos, tutorials, and practice exams here to help you get CCNA certified.
