CCNA Practice Exam:

Static Route Types, Pings, and more!

Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

Here's a quick and effective CCNA practice exam for you on static route types, pings, and a little troubleshooting thrown in for good measure!!

For more help on becoming a CCNA and CCNP, visit my CCNA Tutorials and 3-Minute Boot Camp pages.

I also have a new (and 100% free!) CCNA OSPF Video Boot Camp on Udemy.com that you really should attend. We'll work together on the trickiest of OSPF configs on live Cisco routers!

Thanks for making TBA part of your CCNA success story!

Right now, let's get to the questions!

1. You're writing a static route that should not appear in the routing table unless the matching route already in that routing table is lost. The route in the table has a code of "O". Which of the following is true?

A. You're creating a floating route.

B. You're creating a default route.

C. You're creating a host route.

D. The AD of your route should be left at the default.

E. The AD of your route should be higher than 110.

F. The AD of your route should be lower than 110.

2. Your ping result is "U.U.U". What's the most likely reason for this?

A. The packets aren't leaving the router.

B. This result can't occur as pings will always return five of the same character.

C. The packets are leaving the router and this is a variation of a successful result as shown by debug ip ping.

D. The local router has a path for the pinged destination, but a downstream router does not.

3. Which of the following is true of the escape sequences for ping and traceroute?

A. They're different.

B. They're the same.

C. You only have to enter the keystroke once.

D. You have to enter the keystroke more than once.

4. Which of the following is a required value in the ip route command?

A. The destination network or host

B. The source network or host

C. A wildcard mask

D. A network or subnet mask

E. The AD of the route

The answers are right after this brief, important message!

And now.. the answers!

1. (A, E.) This scenario describes a floating static route, and for the static route to not appear in the routing table until the matching OSPF route is gone, the static route should be assigned an AD higher than that of OSPF (110).

For a full three-part Video Boot Camp on floating static routes from my YouTube channel, just click this link!

2. (D). The most likely scenario here is that the local router does have a path to the destination in its routing table, but a downstream router does not.

3. (B, D). The escape sequence for both ping and traceroute is <ctrl-shift-6>, but you have to enter it twice in rapid succession.

4. (A, D). You have to specify the destination and you'll also enter a network / subnet mask. You *can* enter the AD, but it's optional.
