CCNA And CCENT Short Answer Practice Exam And Video:

Routing Protocols And Static Routing

By Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

Bulldogs, the best way to be sure you're ready for success on your CCENT and CCNA exams is to practice with short answer questions...

... after these, multiple choice questions are easy! : )

Here's a quick 4-question CCNA practice exam, and I'll be posting these several times a week beginning October 5, 2011.

Be sure to bookmark my CCNA Practice Exam page while you're here, and let's get started with today's exam!

1. In the following diagram, what ip route statement would create a static route from R1 to the server, but would match no other traffic?

There are two correct answers - for extra credit, name them both!

Static Routing Network

2. Using the previous illustration, what ip route statement could be configured on R1 in order to specifically use R2's Serial1 interface as the destination for packets that have no other match in the routing table?

3. What network device or tool is represented by the following?

This Isn't Going To Tell You : )

4. Name three major differences between RIPv1 and RIPv2.

Answers right after this brief, important message.. and if you prefer to watch the video of this exam, here it is!

And now -- the answers!

1. We could use the ip route statement to identify either the next-hop IP address or the local exit interface, so either of these would work:

ip route 172.12.1.3 255.255.255.255 serial0

ip route 172.12.1.3 255.255.255.255 30.1.1.2

These are host routes - they'll match one and only one destination.

2. The config for that default static route:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 30.1.1.2

3. That's a hub. Watch that on your CCENT and CCNA exams - when you're taking an exam, that can look like a switch at first glance.

4. RIP v1 uses broadcasts, RIP v2 uses multicasts.

RIP v1 update packets are destined for 255.255.255.255, RIP v2 packets for 224.0.0.9.

RIP v1 does not support subnet masking, RIP v2 does.

RIP v1 doesn't support packet authentication, RIP v2 does.
