Question 1:

Users are complaining of slow access to network services when they first log in to the network. Some are having problems receiving their dynamically assigned IP addresses.

Users are generally in agreement that once they log in, the speed of the network is normal. (Except for that one person in the corner cubicle who still thinks it's slow, but he's always complaining.)

Which of the following Cisco switch features can resolve this issue?

A. Backbonefast

B. BPDU Skewing

C. Portfast

D. Uplinkfast

Question 2:

Approximately how long does it take a switch running RSTP to detect a down link?

A. The MaxAge value, 20 seconds

B. The Hello Time value, 2 seconds

C. The FwdDelay value, 15 seconds

D. A combination of these

E. None of these

Question 3:

What's the STP cost of a Fast Ethernet port on a Cisco 2950 switch?

Question 4:

A port on our Cisco switch is configured with Root Guard. An inferior BPDU arrives on that port. What's the default action of the port?

A. Go into err-disabled state

B. Nothing

C. Go into blocking mode

D. Go into port-inconsistent state

E. There's no such thing as an "inferior BPDU"

Question 5:

When Uplinkfast is enabled, about how long will it take the new root port to go from blocking mode to forwarding mode?

Question 6:

What Cisco switch feature is often configured with Portfast and will shut down a port if any BPDU is received on that port?

A. Root Guard

B. BPDU Guard

C. Uplinkfast

D. Backbonefast

E. BPDU Skew Detection

Question 7:

Which of the Cisco switchport features mentioned in the answers to the previous question is typically used to prevent any switch downstream from that port from becoming the root bridge?

Answers right after this brief, important message!

Answers:

1. "C". Portfast might help. That would enable those user ports to skip the listening and learning STP states, and those states can interfere with host devices getting their IP addresses via DHCP.

2. "E". An RSTP port will detect a down link in about 6 seconds overall. When an RSTP port misses three BPDUs, the link is considered down. The RSTP Hello Time is 2 seconds.

3. The STP port cost of a Fast Ethernet port is 19. The higher the speed, the lower the port cost.

4. "B". Root Guard takes no action when an inferior BPDU is received. When a superior BPDU is received, the port will go into root-inconsistent state.

5. The new root port will go into forwarding mode in 1 - 3 seconds.

6. "B". BPDU Guard will put a port into err-disabled state when any BPDU is received on that port. This helps to guard against the possibility that someone will attempt to connect a switch to a Portfast-enabled port.

7. "A". When Root Guard is configured on a port, no switch downstream from that port can become the root bridge.
