Vital Reading And Watching For All Cisco Certification Candidates:
The July 2010 CCNP Changes (And How To Beat Them!)
Here's another segment in our CCNP tutorial series that's designed to help you beat the July 2010 CCNP exam changeover!
In previous ISIS tutorials, we covered ISIS theory and began some configurations on live Cisco routers as well. In this tutorial, we'll take a look at the different ISIS routing levels.
There are four different ISIS routing levels we need to be aware of. Level 0: ES - IS routing in the same subnet. The host device is the ES and the router is the IS. ES - IS "routing" is really a router discovery protocol process.
Level 1: IS - IS routing in the same area (intra-area).
We'll continue this ISIS tutorial right after this important message!

Let's pick back up with our ISIS tutorial!
Level 2: IS - IS routing between areas in the same domain (inter-area).
Level 3: Inter-domain routing. ISIS does not perform inter-domain routing. The InterDomain Routing Protocol (IDRP) performs this task, and configuration of this protocol is out of the scope of the BSCI exam.
Cisco routers do not support IDRP and therefore do not support ISIS Level 3 routing.
Those are the ISIS routing types; now let's talk about the router types. Let's head to the next part of this CCNP tutorial series and do just that!
