CCNP SWITCH Practice Exam:

"Fast" This and "Loop" That

From Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

It's easy to get some of the "fast" and "loop-related features in the CCNP SWITCH exam mixed up...

... but of course, our success on exam day depends on NOT getting them mixed up!

To help you keep these straight, here's a CCNP SWITCH practice exam on those very features.

Let's get started!

1. Of the following, which can be particularly helpful in resolving latency issues with end users getting their IP addresses dynamically?

A. Uplinkfast

B. Portfast

C. Backbonefast

D. Port Accelerator

2. You note an odd switch priority of 49,152 on one of your Cisco switches. This is an excellent indication that which of the following is running on that switch?

A. Uplinkfast

B. Portfast

C. Loop Guard

D. Port Guard

E. Backbonefast

3. You're thinking of running Uplinkfast on your network. It's generally recommended that you run this feature of which of your network switches?

A. All of them

B. The core-layer switches

C. The distribution-layer switches

D. The access-layer switches

E. The root switches of each VLAN

F. The non-root switches of each VLAN

4. You're also thinking about running Backbonefast on your network. Of the choices given in the previous question, where should you enable this feature for best results?

Answers right after this brief, important message!

And now.. the answers!

1. (B). Works like a charm - if your end users are having trouble getting their IP addresses via DHCP in a timely manner, try running Portfast on their switch ports.

2. (A). When you enable Uplinkfast on a Cisco switch, its priority will be set to 49,152.

3. (D). Uplinkfast should be run only on your access-layer switches, and actually can't be run on a root switch.

4. (A). For best result, enable Backbonefast on all switches.
