Microsoft Server 2008 Certification News:
Server 2008 Certifications Announced
By Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933
The Windows Server 2008 certification track has been released by Microsoft, and while the 2008 track is still a multi-exam certification, there are big differences from past Microsoft certifications.
The biggest change is that there will be no “Server 2008 MCSE” certification. The certifications are now Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certifications, and there are two different certification paths to choose from.
The Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator certification will require you to pass five separate exams, with four required exams:
Windows Server 2008 Applications Platform (70-643)
Windows Server 2008 Active Directory (70-640)
Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure (70-642)
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator (70-647)
For the fifth exam, you’re required to pass a Windows Vista Client exam, either 70-620 or 70-624.
The Windows Server 2008 Administrator certification path requires you to pass the following three exams:
Windows Server 2008 Active Directory (70-640)
Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure (70-642)
Windows 2008 Server Administrator Exam (70-646)
Microsoft will also be offering certifications that are similar to Cisco’s Specialist exams. You’ll be able to earn your Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification by passing the Server 2008 Active Directory, Application Platform, or Network Infrastructure exams.
